Election Activities

I know… we’re all sick of hearing about the upcoming Presidential election. But here’s something that can get you in the voting mood without talking about the candidates  and maybe get you feeling very patriotic! Let’s talk about some speech activities… election themed!

So this topic lends itself to our older patients but there is this book that I love for our little ones. The Little President: A Presidential Primer by Joan Holub and Daniel Roode. It targets ages 2-8 years and is a beautifully illustrated board book, so it hold up to little hands. It features significant Presidents such as Washington, Jefferson and Lincoln. It’s a great way to introduce our younger kiddos to who the President is.

Another book that I love for our older patients is Amelia Bedelia’s First Vote by Herman Parish. It goes into more detail on the details of elections but is still fun and engaging. If your kiddo wants to listen to the book, here’s a video!

After you’ve read about elections, it’s time for action! For our little ones, here is a worksheet on what they would do if they were President. Have them draw a picture too and discuss with the whole family!

For our kids that need some vocabulary help, here’s a word search. Discuss each word or even have them look them up in the dictionary!

Lat but not least, have them come and vote with you on election day! Let them see what they have learned about in real life. I promise they’ll wear their I VOTED sticker proudly!
